Hurricane Florence

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

- Joshua 1:9 (NIV)

As we watch, wait, and prepare for Hurricane Florence and its effect on our community, use this as an opportunity to reach out to others. Talk to your neighbors—and lend a helping hand:

  • Help others move patio furniture and other loose items inside.

  • Be cognizant of friends and neighbors that might need help preparing to leave or with making a plan for where to go.

  • Help a neighbor board their windows if needed.

  • Ask neighbors what you can do—make sure they have a plan for getting to safety if evacuation is deemed necessary. If they need help moving items to the second story of their home, be intentional and offer to help. If they need help getting items from the store for a potential evacuation, offer to get them when you're running errands to do the same.

People have a hard time asking for help, so be proactive in asking and lending a hand where you can. Find a need and meet it! If you need a full list of action items to prepare, please visit the National Hurricane Center's website for more information.

Once the storm has passed, LCC will be communicating various ways that you can help with relief efforts. To stay in the loop and receive more information, sign up to receive volunteer info as additional ways to help your neighbors come to light.
