What If Your Family’s Next Step Wasn’t a Vacation—But a Mission?
by Tabitha Turner
As I look back on our recent Lowco Kids Family Missions Trip, I’m still in awe of how God moved—not just in the lives of the Navajo families we served, but in our own hearts as well.
Each day was rich and full. We shared the love of Jesus through VBS, built with our hands, visited families in the community, and worshiped beneath skies that seemed to stretch forever.
But some of the most meaningful moments came in the quiet spaces—laughing with new friends, praying as the breeze whispered through the trees, watching the sun dip behind the mesas while children played freely on timeworn playgrounds.
We fed the community horse and gathered eggs from the chicken coop as the morning light painted golden streaks across the desert. It was holy ground—simple, sacred, and still.
And something special happened: families grew closer. Parents, teens, and children didn’t just serve alongside each other—they reconnected. What started as a team turned into a family. We came home with deeper friendships, new mentors, and a clearer picture of what it means to follow Jesus, hand in hand.
This trip shaped us—spiritually and emotionally. We became the kind of church described in Acts 2—a community marked by love, unity, and encouragement. Each of us stepped outside our comfort zones, and in return, we saw God move.
Six children and three adults made the decision to follow Jesus. Even more powerful—one of our own team members, who had never spoken in public before, stepped out in faith and shared the message of salvation. That moment will stay with us.
“How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” —Romans 10:15
On this trip, that verse came alive. Kids, teens, and adults alike stepped forward in boldness, sharing the Gospel with joy.
So let me tell you this: If you’ve ever felt even a small tug to go on a mission trip—don’t brush it off. Whether you go alone or bring your whole family, talk to someone who’s gone. Ask your questions. Hear their stories. God often does His deepest work when we step into the unfamiliar with open hands.
This wasn’t just another trip—it was meaningful and unforgettable.
We stepped away from the noise of everyday life and drew near to what really matters.
We traded comfort for calling.
And our kids? They saw faith lived out, and they responded with courage and compassion.
You don’t need to have it all figured out. Just take the first step. Say “yes” and trust that God will meet you there.
That’s exactly what Josh Moody did. He took a leap of faith and brought his children on this journey. He didn’t have all the answers, but he showed up with an open heart—and God did the rest. His family saw firsthand how powerful it is to serve together. Reflecting on the trip, Josh shared, “Be patient and let God do His work.”
His words are a reminder that we don’t need a perfect plan. Sometimes, all we have to do is show up—and let God lead the way.
