Good Roots Produce Great Fruit: Are You Listening to God’s Voice?

Have you ever wondered if God is still speaking today? Do you long to hear His voice but feel like your prayers are met with silence? Many people wrestle with the same question: If God is speaking, why can’t I hear Him?

In Luke 8:1–15, Jesus answers this through the Parable of the Sower. The lesson? Good roots produce great fruit, but only if the soil—the condition of our hearts—is ready. The seed is always the same: God’s Word. The difference lies in how we receive it.

Is Your Heart Ready to Receive?

Jesus describes four types of soil:

  • The Hardened Path – A closed mind refuses to hear. Are fear or pride keeping you from listening to what God might say?

  • Rocky Ground – Quick excitement with no roots. Are you letting life’s pressures wither your faith before it matures?

  • Thorny Soil – Distractions choke growth. Are worries, material pursuits, and pleasures stealing your focus from God?

  • Good Soil – A receptive, persevering heart produces a harvest. Are you cultivating openness so God’s truth can take root and bear fruit?

How Can You Tune Into God’s Frequency?

Much like tuning an old radio to the right station, hearing God requires intentional alignment. Ask yourself:

  • Have I allocated time to listen? Daily Bible reading and quiet prayer create space for God to speak.

  • Have I eliminated distractions? Reducing mental clutter, material pressure, and unhealthy habits frees your spirit to grow.

  • Am I ready to obey before I hear? God often speaks to the willing heart that says, “Yes, Lord,” before knowing the full plan.

What Fruit Could Your Life Produce?

Imagine a life where your faith not only survives but thrives, rooted deeply in God’s truth, flourishing in your family, workplace, and community. This isn’t just about personal growth; it’s about influence. Your spiritual fruit can bring hope to others, encouragement to coworkers, and joy to friends.

So here’s the challenge: What kind of soil will you be? Will you let God’s Word take root in your heart, persevere through the challenges, and produce a harvest that blesses everyone around you? The seed is ready. The Sower is speaking. The question is—are you listening?
