What Age Should You Talk To Your Kids About Jesus?
by Tabitha Turner
When is it too early to introduce your child to the love of Jesus?
This is a question we often hear from parents as they wonder when their child should begin exploring faith.
The answer is simple: It’s never too early to introduce your child to the love of Jesus!
In Luke 1:41–44, we read about John the Baptist leaping for joy in his mother’s womb when Mary, who was pregnant with Jesus, came to visit. What a beautiful reminder of God’s work in the lives of even the youngest children!
From the very beginning, we can help our children learn about Jesus. Reading Bible stories, singing songs about Him, and praying together are simple ways to begin building a foundation of faith. Children learn so much from the people around them, and the seeds of faith we plant when they are young can continue to grow throughout their lives.
This brings me to something exciting happening in Lowco Kids!
Our heart has always been to partner with parents as they raise the next generation to love and serve Jesus. From child dedication through high school graduation, we want to walk alongside families as they help their children grow in their relationship with Him.
We know faith is a journey, and every child grows at their own pace. Our desire is to help children understand who Jesus is while providing a safe place to ask questions and discover what it means to follow Him.
One way we are doing this is through our Lowco Kids STEM class. While parents attend classes to grow in their own faith, their children have the opportunity to learn about Jesus in a fun, engaging environment.
But this isn't just any STEM class! Our kids are learning apologetics through STEM.
What is apologetics? Simply put, it is learning how to explain and defend what we believe. Using Lee Strobel’s book A Case for Christ for Kids as a resource, our children are discovering some amazing things about Jesus and the Bible.
They are learning that Jesus was a real historical person and that Luke carefully investigated the accounts of His life. They have explored eyewitness testimony of Jesus’ resurrection, including Paul’s account of Jesus appearing to more than 500 people. They are also discovering how creation points us toward a Creator and how archaeological artifacts help us better understand the world of the Bible.
Through hands-on activities and investigations led by our amazing Lowco Kids volunteers, children are learning to examine evidence and think about why they believe what the Bible teaches. Most importantly, they are discovering that asking questions is a good thing and that they can learn to explain their faith with confidence.
One of the most encouraging parts of this class has been watching these kids grow in their relationships with their leaders and build new friendships with one another. Each week, they dive into activities together, encourage one another, and celebrate what they are learning. Whether they are taking the stage to recite a memory verse, name a book of the Bible, or share what they learned the previous week, their excitement is contagious!
Parents, let me ask you a few questions:
How many books are in the Bible? Approximately how many authors contributed to it? Over how many years was it written?
These are the kinds of questions our little investigators are excited to explore! Their curiosity is opening the door to deeper conversations about God’s Word and developing a desire to learn more about Jesus.
Sometimes, we assume studying the Bible is difficult or that deeper conversations about faith are meant for adults. But children can begin exploring these truths at an early age. When we make room for their questions and help them discover the answers, we give them a foundation they can continue building on as they grow.
Our STEM class is just one of the ways Lowco Kids partners with parents to help children grow in their faith. We encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities and continue the conversations at home. Read the Bible together, pray together, and never be afraid to explore your child’s questions about God.
It is never too early to begin planting seeds of faith in your child’s life. Our prayer is that, as those seeds grow, your children will come to know Jesus personally and develop a relationship with Him that lasts a lifetime.
