When Our Kids Lead the Way
by Tabitha Turner
You don’t need me to tell you how amazing your children are—but I do want to take a moment to celebrate the beautiful ways they are choosing to love God and love others.
One of the greatest joys of serving in Lowco Kids is watching your children’s hearts grow. The heart of a child holds a kind of beauty that’s often hard to put into words. Week after week, I am amazed by what I learn from them. That’s right—your children are teaching me. Through their kindness, generosity, and willingness to learn, they show what it truly means to have a childlike faith and a heart that cares deeply for others.
Recently, our elementary kids had the chance to create Easter cards for their friends in the Navajo Nation. We simply asked them to decorate the cards and write a kind message inside. As I opened each one, I was nearly brought to tears. Their precious hearts were poured into every hand-drawn rainbow, cross, and encouraging word. What might have seemed like a simple craft became something much bigger—a beautiful expression of hope and God’s love for their peers.
As many of you know, our kids are building relationships with children in the Navajo Nation through the Brethren in Christ Mission in Bloomfield, New Mexico. Our ministry is committed to supporting these families—providing Christmas gifts during Family Serve Day and giving through our offering well to help provide food for more than 60 families each week. This will continue throughout 2026.
Here’s the truly amazing part—your children are leading the way. Through their prayers, generosity, and willingness to serve, they are already making a difference for the Kingdom and sharing the love of Jesus with friends they may never meet this side of heaven.
You should be incredibly proud of the direction their hearts are going. God is using them in powerful ways. Thank you for raising kids who are learning to love God and love others so well. Take some time to talk with your children—ask them what they’re learning and how they’re serving their friends in New Mexico!
By the way, did you know we have a Lowco Kids book to help families journey through our 2026 plan to serve our Navajo friends? It includes information about the BIC Mission, devotionals, prayers, recipes, and much more. Pick up your free copy at the kids’ registration desk on Sunday if you haven’t received one yet.
And let us remember Jesus’ words in Matthew 22:37-39, the Great Commandment: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Your children are living this commandment every day—loving God and loving others in ways that are making a real difference.
