Big Transitions, Bigger Purpose: Helping the Next Generation Find Their Place

by Tabitha Turner

Summer has a way of making us pause.

Somewhere between the late sunsets, pool days, family vacations, and sticky popsicle fingers, we suddenly notice it—our kids are changing. Growing. Maturing. Stepping into new seasons faster than we ever imagined possible.

One day they’re nervously checking into their classroom for the first time, and before we know it, they’re preparing to walk into middle school.

It reminds me of something my Nana used to always say:

“The days are long, but the years are short.”

As parents, we feel that deeply this time of year.

For many of our families, summer marks major transitions. Some children are preparing for their very first preschool experience—an exciting new adventure filled with learning, friendships, and discovering more about God’s love. Others are celebrating an even bigger milestone as our rising 6th graders prepare to move from Lowco Kids into the LCC Youth Ministry.

These moments are exciting, emotional, and incredibly important. Why?

Because transition seasons are often the moments God uses most to grow confidence, deepen faith, and reveal purpose in the lives of our children.

At Lowco Kids, we believe church should be more than just a place kids attend—we believe it should become a place where they belong, grow, and begin discovering how God can use them right now.

That’s why one of the most exciting parts of moving into middle school is the opportunity for students to begin serving.

Yes… serving. Not years from now. Not “when they’re older.” Now.

There is something powerful that happens when students stop simply sitting in the room and begin helping lead within it. Serving gives kids ownership in the church. It builds confidence. It develops leadership. Most importantly, it helps students understand that their faith was never meant to stay on the sidelines.

For our rising 6th graders, there are several incredible opportunities to get involved right here in Lowco Kids:

  • Pre-K Ministry – Students can assist in our 3-, 4-, and 5-year-old classrooms as small group helpers, encouraging and caring for younger children.

  • Worship Jr. Team – Students learn choreography and help lead worship on stage during elementary services, creating an energetic and engaging worship experience for kids.

  • Jr. Tech Team – Students help behind the scenes by running microphones, slides, music, and other tech elements that make Sunday mornings happen.

These opportunities are more than volunteer positions—they are training grounds for future servant leaders.

And parents, we want you to know this: serving together as a family creates lasting spiritual impact. When children see their parents serving faithfully, they begin to understand that church is not just something we attend—it’s something we actively invest our hearts into.

Jesus modeled this perfectly. Scripture tells us in Galatians 5:13:

“Serve one another humbly in love.”

When children begin serving early, they learn compassion, humility, teamwork, responsibility, and the joy that comes from putting others before themselves. They begin discovering that God has uniquely gifted them and that they already have a place in His mission.

As we head into another summer season, our prayer is not simply that kids grow older—but that they grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus and stronger in their calling to serve others.

If you or your child would like to begin serving, we would love to help you take that next step. You can learn more and sign up to serve HERE →

We can’t wait to see how God moves through the next generation this year!
