The Grave Facts: Where Is God When We Grieve?
Have you ever felt like no one really sees you? Like your grief, your struggles, or your quiet heartache are invisible to the world around you? If that’s where you are today, take heart. You’re not alone, and more importantly, Jesus sees you.
That truth comes to life in Luke 7:11-17, when Jesus visits a little village called Nain. It’s a moment that still speaks to us today.
When Life and Loss Cross Paths
Imagine this scene. Two very different groups of people are moving toward each other outside the city gates. One crowd is full of joy, walking alongside Jesus, talking and laughing as they travel. The other is heartbroken, following the body of a young man to the cemetery. His mother, already a widow, is now burying her only son. Her world has completely fallen apart.
When Jesus sees her, His heart breaks. He steps forward, gently tells her not to cry, and then does something amazing. He touches the coffin and speaks directly to the young man: "Young man, I say to you, get up." And just like that, the boy sits up and starts talking.
Can you imagine the crowd’s reaction? First shock, then awe, and finally celebration. A funeral turned into a reunion. A mother who had lost everything is given her son back.
What Does This Mean for Us?
Jesus sees you.
Maybe you’ve felt invisible lately. Maybe you're grieving, discouraged, or just exhausted. You might even be surrounded by people, but still feel completely unseen. The beautiful truth is that Jesus notices. He cares deeply and meets us right in our pain, just like He did with that grieving mother.
Jesus brings new life.
Death, defeat, fear…they don't have the final word. Jesus has the power to restore what we thought was gone forever. Whether it's a broken relationship, a fading dream, or your own sense of hope, Jesus still brings life where there was once loss.
Where in your life are you longing for Jesus to step in?
Is there a place in your heart where you're desperate for His touch? A situation that feels too big, too broken, too far gone? Be encouraged. The same Jesus who walked into the heartbreak of Nain is walking toward you with compassion, power, and love.
You're not forgotten. You're not too far gone. Jesus sees you. He speaks life. And He brings hope when we least expect it.
