A Different Kind of Champion

by Tabitha Turner

Some people see sports as a great way for kids to stay active, build friendships, learn teamwork, and have fun. Others see something more—a path to college opportunities or even a professional career. Many young athletes dream of winning: gaining recognition, achieving success, earning financial rewards, and making their families proud.

But what if there’s an even greater kind of win we could give our children? Let me share a story.

My youngest son, Ryan—now 23—once had what felt like the perfect summer job. He worked part-time at the golf course at Palmetto Bluff, a beautiful setting and a dream job for someone who loves the game. He spent his days outside, enjoyed the perk of free golf, and met people from all over the country who came to play.

One day, Ryan came home especially excited about someone he had met—a college football player. They had connected quickly, talking about school, training, competition, and the upcoming season. But what stood out most to Ryan wasn’t this young man’s talent, athletic ability, or accomplishments.

It was his faith.

Over the next few days, their conversations became more meaningful. This athlete began sharing openly about Jesus—about putting Christ first in every part of life and living with purpose beyond personal success. He didn’t use his platform to impress people or draw attention to himself. Instead, he used it to encourage others and point them toward something greater.

Ryan was completely drawn in. He admired this young man not because of what he had achieved on the field, but because of how he lived off of it—with conviction, humility, and sincerity. He talked about his new friend, Trevor, for weeks. Their conversations clearly left a mark.

Not long after, we learned something incredible: Trevor would soon announce he was signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars as their new quarterback. That young man was Trevor Lawrence.

Think about that. Here was someone at the very beginning of a high-profile NFL career—someone with every reason to focus on his future, his success, and the spotlight that comes with it. Yet he chose to take time for my son, to invest in him personally, and to share what mattered most in his life. He used his platform not for his own glory, but to reflect his faith. And because of that, he made an impact on Ryan that will last far beyond a single summer.

At some point, someone had poured into Trevor’s life—encouraging him, guiding him, and planting seeds of faith. While his success on the field is impressive, what matters even more is the faith that took root in his heart and now influences how he lives and leads. That’s the kind of “win” we want for our children.

At Lowco Kids Proven Sports Camp—June 8–12, 2026—we believe sports are about much more than competition. They are a powerful tool to shape character, build confidence, and teach life lessons that extend far beyond the game. Most importantly, they create opportunities to plant seeds of faith that can grow and impact a child’s life for years to come.

Our mission is to provide an environment where young athletes are encouraged to grow not only in skill, but also in purpose—learning what it means to lead with integrity, serve others, and stay grounded in their values both on and off the field. Through coaching, mentorship, and intentional conversations, we aim to develop the whole athlete—not just their performance, but their character and direction in life.

We would love for your child to be part of this experience.

At Lowco Kids Proven Sports Camp, the goal isn’t just to develop better athletes—it’s to help raise confident, grounded, and faith-filled leaders who are prepared for whatever lies ahead.
