How Will You Build Your Life?
When fierce storms roll in, they leave devastation in their wake: homes reduced to rubble, lives upended, and entire communities forever changed. The sheer power of wind, rain, and floodwaters reminds us how quickly everything we rely on can come crashing down. But have you ever considered what kind of storm could shake the foundation of your life?
Jesus’ words in Luke 6:46-49 remind us that the most dangerous storms aren’t just those that rage outside, but those that rage within our lives. Trials, temptations, heartbreak, and loss can shake us to the core. When these storms come, only those with a strong foundation will stand.
So let me ask you: Are you building your life on solid rock or shifting sand?
What Kind of Builder Are You?
Jesus tells a powerful story in Luke 6:46-49: two builders, two foundations, and one question. Will your life stand firm or collapse? Many of us call Jesus “Lord,” but do our lives show real obedience to His words? Jesus warns that simply saying the right things isn’t enough. A strong foundation comes from hearing His words and putting them into practice.
Just like homes need deep, solid foundations to survive the fury of a storm, our lives need to be rooted in the unchanging truth of God’s Word. When the storms of sickness, loss, or disappointment strike, only a life grounded in Jesus will stand firm.
Why Does Obedience Matter?
Why do you call Him “Lord” if you don’t do what He says? This is the penetrating question Jesus asked His followers, and it’s one we must answer ourselves. Are we trying to create a “constitutional monarchy” in our hearts, letting Jesus hold the title of King while we still call the shots? Or are we surrendering fully to Him?
Faith without obedience is like building a house on sand. It looks fine until the storm comes. But a life built on obedience to Jesus is like a house with a reinforced foundation, unshakable when the floods rise and the winds howl.
How Will You Respond Today?
Friend, storms will come. They come to everyone, both the wise and the foolish. The question isn’t whether storms will come, but whether your foundation will hold. Are you listening to Jesus’ words and actually doing what He says? Or are you only giving lip service to your faith?
No matter where you live or what storms you face, Jesus offers you a sure foundation that will stand the tests of time and eternity. Today, will you choose to not only hear His words but obey them? Will you build your life on the rock-solid truth of Jesus Christ?
Don’t just sit there. Arise and build your life on Him today!
